Possible Causes
Protective oils on heating element, Residual coatings on interior surfaces, New plastic components off-gassing when heated
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Ensure good ventilation when performing burn-in cycles.
Steps to reduce new-appliance odor:
- Initial cleaning: Wash the basket and pan with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly. Wipe the interior cavity with a damp cloth and let dry.
- Burn-in cycle: Run the air fryer empty (without food) at 400°F (or highest setting) for 15–20 minutes, then allow it to cool. Repeat once or twice if needed.
- Ventilate: Operate the fryer near an open window or under a range hood during the first few uses.
Note: A mild odor is normal for the first few uses. Strong, persistent burning plastic smell after several cycles may indicate a defective component that should be inspected.
