Possible Causes
Firmware glitch, Power surge corruption, Faulty microcontroller on main PCB, Shorted keypad line holding processor in reset
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug before extended troubleshooting.
Steps to address control lockup:
- Extended reset: Unplug the fryer for at least 30 minutes to fully discharge internal capacitors, then plug back in.
- Isolate keypad: If accessible, disconnect the keypad/touch panel ribbon cable from the main board and power up briefly (if safe) to see if the board boots differently. This test is for experienced users only.
- Inspect for damage: Remove the bottom cover and inspect the main PCB for burn marks or corrosion.
- Replace main control PCB: Persistent lockup with no visible external cause usually indicates a failed microcontroller; replace the main control board.
Note: Firmware on most Farberware boards is not user-reflashable; board replacement is the standard remedy.
