Possible Causes

Moisture ingress into touch panel, Conductive residue on keypad surface, Shorted keypad matrix on control board, Stuck start button

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the air fryer immediately if it starts unexpectedly. This is a safety concern.

Steps to correct phantom starts:

  • Clean and dry panel: Thoroughly wipe the control panel with a dry cloth. If it was recently cleaned with liquid, allow it to dry unplugged for 24 hours.
  • Inspect for damage: Look for cracks or punctures in the touch membrane that could allow moisture inside.
  • Disconnect keypad (advanced): With the unit unplugged, remove the bottom/front cover and disconnect the keypad ribbon cable. If the unit no longer starts by itself when powered (and cannot be controlled), the keypad is the likely culprit.
  • Replace touch panel: Install a new Farberware touch control panel assembly.

Warning: Do not leave a unit that self-starts plugged in and unattended; repair or replace it.
