Blocked air vents causing overheating, Failed high-limit thermostat, Stuck relay on control board keeping heater on, Faulty temperature sensor calibration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety Warning: Overheating can be a fire risk. Unplug the unit immediately if you smell burning plastic or see smoke.
- Step 1 – Check ventilation: Ensure the air fryer is placed on a hard, heat‑resistant surface with at least 5 inches (12 cm) of clearance on all sides and above. Clear any obstructions from the rear and side vents.
- Step 2 – Clean air paths: Remove the basket and drawer. Clean the interior, especially the top area around the heating element and fan guard, to remove grease and food debris that can restrict airflow.
- Step 3 – Cool down reset: Allow the unit to cool for at least 30 minutes unplugged. Then plug it back in and run a short test cycle at a low temperature (e.g., 300°F/150°C) with an empty basket to see if E3 reappears.
- Step 4 – Inspect high-limit thermostat: With the unit unplugged and back cover removed, locate the high‑limit thermostat (small round or disc‑shaped device mounted near the heater). Check for signs of overheating or discoloration. Some models use a manual‑reset thermostat with a small button; press it gently if present.
- Step 5 – Replace faulty parts: If the high‑limit thermostat is open (no continuity) at room temperature, replace it. If the thermostat is good but the unit overheats or E3 persists, the control board or sensor may be misreading temperature and should be replaced.
- Stop using if overheating continues: If the unit continues to overheat or shut down, discontinue use and contact Frigidaire service to avoid fire hazards.
