Possible Causes
Heavy grease buildup on heating element and basket,Using too much oil or high-fat foods,Food particles stuck on heater shield,Drip pan or basket not cleaned between uses
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If smoke is heavy, turn off and unplug the unit. Open windows or use ventilation. Do not pour water into the hot air fryer.
Step-by-step checks:
- Clean basket and pan: Remove and thoroughly wash the basket and pan with hot soapy water. Remove all grease and food residue.
- Clean heater area: After cooling, gently clean the heating element and surrounding surfaces with a damp cloth and mild degreaser. Avoid soaking the element.
- Remove loose crumbs: Shake or vacuum out any crumbs from the bottom of the cooking chamber.
- Reduce oil: Use minimal added oil and avoid spraying oil directly onto the heating element.
- Lower temperature: For very fatty foods (bacon, sausages), cook at a slightly lower temperature and for longer to reduce splatter and smoke.
When to stop: If smoke persists even after thorough cleaning and adjusting cooking methods, inspect for grease trapped behind internal shields or consult a technician.
