Possible Causes
Old grease soaked into basket coating,Residue on heater and fan shroud,Grease trapped under bottom plate or drip tray,Infrequent deep cleaning of interior surfaces
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug and cool the unit before cleaning. Avoid abrasive cleaners that can damage non-stick coatings.
Step-by-step checks:
- Deep clean removable parts: Soak the basket and pan in hot, soapy water. Use a non-abrasive sponge to remove all grease. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
- Clean interior surfaces: Wipe the inside of the cooking chamber, including walls and bottom, with a cloth dampened with warm water and mild detergent.
- Heater and fan area: Carefully clean around the heater and fan shroud with a soft brush and cloth. Do not saturate the area with water.
- Deodorizing run: After cleaning, run the air fryer empty at 350°F (180°C) for 10–15 minutes to burn off any remaining odors.
- Check for damaged coating: If the basket’s non-stick coating is heavily worn or peeling, it can retain odors and should be replaced.
When to stop: Persistent strong odors after thorough cleaning may indicate grease trapped in inaccessible areas. Consider replacing heavily saturated components or consulting service.
