Air fryer will not start and displays E1 on the control panel.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Insignia air fryer and let it cool completely before opening any panels. Never work on the unit while it is connected to power.
Steps to check and address E1:
- 1. Power reset: Unplug the air fryer for 5–10 minutes, then plug it back in and try again. Sometimes E1 is a temporary logic error.
- 2. Inspect the sensor connector: Remove the rear or bottom cover (depending on model) to access the heating chamber. Locate the small wired probe (NTC temperature sensor) usually clipped near the heating element or inner wall. Ensure its plug is firmly seated on the main control board.
- 3. Check sensor wiring: Look for broken, pinched, or burned wires between the NTC sensor and the control board. If insulation is melted or wires are cut, the harness must be replaced.
- 4. Test the sensor (for advanced users): Using a multimeter set to resistance (ohms), measure across the two sensor leads. A typical NTC will show a finite resistance (often 10kΩ–100kΩ at room temperature). If it reads open (OL) or 0Ω, the sensor is defective.
- 5. Replace the NTC sensor: If the sensor is open or physically damaged, order a compatible Insignia air fryer NTC temperature sensor. Remove the old sensor from its clip or bracket, route the new sensor wiring the same way, and reconnect to the control board.
- 6. Control board check: If a known-good sensor is installed and wiring is intact but E1 persists, the main control board sensor input may be faulty. At this point, replacement of the control board or professional service is recommended.
Warning: Do not bypass or short the temperature sensor; this can cause overheating and fire risk.
