Possible Causes

Shorted NTC temperature sensor, Moisture or grease bridging sensor terminals, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Failed main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the air fryer and allow it to cool completely before inspection.

Steps to troubleshoot E2:

  • 1. Basic reset: Unplug for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in and test. If E2 returns immediately, continue.
  • 2. Inspect sensor area for contamination: Access the interior behind the heating chamber where the NTC sensor is mounted. Look for heavy grease, moisture, or carbonized food debris around the sensor and its terminals.
  • 3. Clean the sensor: With the unit unplugged, gently wipe the sensor body and nearby wiring with a slightly damp cloth and mild detergent, then dry thoroughly. Ensure no liquid enters the control board area.
  • 4. Check for pinched or melted wires: Follow the sensor harness from the probe to the control board. If insulation is melted and conductors are touching, the harness is shorted and must be replaced.
  • 5. Test the sensor with a multimeter: At room temperature, the sensor should show a stable resistance value. If it reads near 0Ω (short) or fluctuates wildly when not moved, replace the sensor.
  • 6. Replace sensor or harness: Install a compatible Insignia NTC temperature sensor or wiring harness, routing it away from sharp metal edges and hot surfaces.
  • 7. Control board evaluation: If a new sensor and good wiring still result in E2, the main control board may be misreading the sensor and should be replaced or evaluated by a technician.

Warning: Do not operate the air fryer with a known sensor fault; overheating and fire hazards are possible.
