Possible Causes
Open heating element, Loose heater terminal connection, Blown thermal fuse in series with heater, Failed heater relay on main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the air fryer and allow it to cool. The heating element and nearby metal parts can remain hot for some time.
Steps to troubleshoot E6:
- 1. Confirm symptom: Start a cycle and check if the fan runs but no heat is produced and E6 appears. This points to a heater circuit issue.
- 2. Access heater terminals: Remove the rear or top cover to expose the heating element assembly. Locate the two main terminals feeding the element.
- 3. Check connections: Ensure spade connectors are tight and not oxidized or burned. Reseat any loose connectors.
- 4. Test heating element: With the unit unplugged, disconnect at least one heater lead and measure resistance across the element. An open (OL) reading indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- 5. Check thermal fuse in heater circuit: Many Insignia air fryers place a thermal fuse in series with the heater. Test it for continuity; if open, replace with the correct rating and investigate overheating causes.
- 6. Inspect heater relay on control board: If the element and fuse test good, the relay or triac on the main control board may not be energizing. Look for burnt contacts or cracked solder joints. Replace the control board if faulty.
Warning: Do not bypass safety devices or operate the unit with exposed wiring.
