Possible Causes
Failed convection fan motor, Jammed fan blade, Loose fan motor connector, Faulty fan driver on main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the air fryer. Do not insert fingers or tools into the fan area while the unit is plugged in.
Steps to address E7:
- 1. Listen for fan: When starting a cycle, you should hear the fan spin up. If it is silent or only hums, there is a fan issue.
- 2. Inspect fan blades: Remove the basket and look up toward the top of the cooking chamber. Check if food debris, foil, or warped accessories are contacting the fan guard or blades.
- 3. Access fan motor: Remove the top or rear cover to reach the fan assembly. Try spinning the fan by hand (with power disconnected). It should rotate freely without grinding.
- 4. Check wiring: Ensure the fan motor connector is fully seated on the control board and that wires are not cut or pinched.
- 5. Test fan motor: Using a multimeter, check resistance across the motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. If you have the skills and proper isolation transformer, you can briefly power the motor directly to confirm operation, but this is not recommended for untrained users.
- 6. Replace fan motor: If defective, remove the mounting screws, transfer the fan blade to the new motor if needed, and install a compatible Insignia convection fan motor.
- 7. Control board check: If the motor tests good but never receives voltage during operation, the fan driver on the main control board is likely faulty and the board should be replaced.
Warning: Operating the air fryer without a working fan can cause severe overheating and fire risk.
