Possible Causes
Basket not fully inserted, bent basket rails, failed basket detection microswitch, misaligned drawer sensor lever
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug before inspecting the basket mechanism.
- Reseat the basket: Remove the basket/drawer completely and reinsert it firmly until you hear or feel a click. Some Instant Pot air fryers require a strong push to engage the safety switch.
- Inspect rails and guides: Check the side rails and bottom guides for warping, bending, or debris. Clean any crumbs or grease that may prevent full insertion.
- Check the basket switch: Look under the front lip or inside the cavity for a small plastic lever or button that the basket presses when fully inserted. Ensure it moves freely and is not stuck.
- Advanced test: With the unit unplugged and cover removed, locate the basket detection microswitch. Manually actuate it and test continuity with a multimeter. If it does not change state, replace the switch.
- Alignment: If the basket does not reliably press the switch, gently adjust the metal tab or plastic actuator (if present) so that insertion fully engages the switch.
Do not tape or permanently depress the basket switch; it is a critical safety feature.
