Possible Causes

New unit curing smell, Plastic components too close to heater, Residual manufacturing oils, Overheating of wiring insulation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If you smell sharp, acrid odors like burning plastic, unplug the unit immediately and inspect before further use.

Steps to address persistent odors:

  • Initial burn-in: For a new Kalorik air fryer, run 2–3 empty cycles at 400°F (or highest setting) for 10–15 minutes each, with the room well ventilated. This often removes initial manufacturing odors.
  • Inspect interior plastics: Check that no plastic packaging or labels remain inside the cooking cavity or on the basket/drawer.
  • Internal inspection: Remove the bottom cover and inspect for plastic parts or wire insulation that appear melted or discolored near the heater.
  • Reposition or replace parts: If a plastic wire clip or component is too close to the heater, reposition it or replace with a heat-resistant alternative. Replace any melted wiring harnesses or plastic brackets with Kalorik-approved parts.
  • Control board check: Inspect the control PCB for burnt components that could emit chemical smells. Replace if necessary.

If the smell persists after burn-in and inspection, discontinue use and consult Kalorik or a technician, as hidden overheating may be occurring.
