Possible Causes
Basket not fully inserted,Defective basket safety microswitch,Faulty Start button on touch panel,Main control board input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing internal switches or boards.
- Verify basket position: Remove and firmly reinsert the basket until it clicks. Some Kenmore models will not start unless the basket is fully seated.
- Check for error icons: Look for a door/basket icon on the display indicating the safety switch is open. If present, focus on the basket switch.
- Test Start button: Try pressing other buttons. If only the Start button is unresponsive, the touch panel may be faulty.
- Inspect basket switch: Access the basket microswitch and test continuity while inserting the basket. Replace the switch if it does not change state.
- Control board: If the switch and touch panel test good but the unit still will not start, the main control board input circuit may be defective and should be replaced.
