Possible Causes
Loose ribbon cable between UI board and main PCB, Damaged touch panel, Moisture ingress behind control panel, Failed microcontroller on UI board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the fryer before removing the control panel.
- Dry the panel: If the unit was recently cleaned, moisture may have entered the control area. Leave unplugged in a warm, dry place for 24 hours and retry.
- Check ribbon cable: Remove the front control fascia to access the user interface board. Reseat the flat ribbon cable or connector between the UI and main PCB, ensuring it is fully inserted and locked.
- Inspect for corrosion: Look for green/white corrosion on connectors or tracks. Clean gently with isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush, then dry thoroughly.
- Panel test: If some buttons work and others do not, the touch panel membrane may be failing. Replace the complete UI board or fascia assembly as supplied by Kenwood.
- PCB replacement: If reseating and cleaning do not resolve E8, replace the user interface board. If the fault persists, the main PCB may also need replacement.
