Possible Causes

Protective oils burning off new heater, Residual manufacturing plastic film left on parts, Wiring insulation overheating, Grease buildup on heater

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If you see smoke or flames, unplug immediately. For mild odor only, proceed with caution.

Steps:

  • 1. Initial burn-in (new units): For new Klarstein air fryers, run 2–3 empty cycles at 180–200°C for 10–15 minutes each, with good ventilation. This burns off protective oils.
  • 2. Inspect for plastic film: Unplug and cool the unit. Check the basket, pan, heater guard, and interior surfaces for any remaining plastic films or stickers. Remove completely.
  • 3. Clean grease: If the unit is used, clean all grease from the heater guard and cavity. Grease on the heater can smoke and smell burnt.
  • 4. Check wiring: Open the housing and inspect wiring near the heater for signs of melting or discoloration. Replace any overheated wires or move them farther from hot surfaces.
  • 5. Test under supervision: Reassemble and run a short cycle while monitoring for smell and checking that no components are overheating.

Warning: Persistent strong burning smell with visible discoloration of parts indicates a serious fault; discontinue use and repair before further operation.
