Possible Causes
Open heating element coil, Burned heater terminal, Loose spade connector on heater, Broken heater wire in harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect from mains and allow the fryer to cool fully.
Steps:
- 1. Access the heater: Remove basket and pan. Remove screws securing the top heater shroud or bottom cover (model dependent). Carefully lift the cover to expose the heating element and fan assembly.
- 2. Visual inspection: Look for breaks in the heating element coil, burned spots, or detached terminals. Check that both heater leads are firmly connected to the element and to the wiring harness.
- 3. Test heater continuity: Disconnect at least one heater lead. Measure resistance across the element with a multimeter. A typical air fryer heater will show low resistance (10–40 Ω). If the reading is OL (open), the element is faulty.
- 4. Check connectors and harness: Inspect spade connectors for looseness or discoloration. Replace any overheated connectors and trim back damaged wire, crimping on new high-temperature terminals.
- 5. Replace heating element: If the element is open or visibly damaged, replace it with a compatible Klarstein heating element assembly. Transfer any mounting brackets or shields from the old element to the new one.
- 6. Control board check: If the heater tests good but E5 persists, inspect the control board heater relay and solder joints. A failed relay or burned trace may require replacing the main control PCB.
- 7. Reassemble and test: Reinstall covers, ensuring wires are routed away from the fan and sharp edges. Plug in and run a test cycle to confirm normal heating and no E5 code.
Warning: Do not operate the fryer with exposed or loose heater wiring.
