Possible Causes
Blocked air vents causing overheating, Failed or stuck thermal fuse/thermal cut-out, Faulty NTC sensor reading too high, Control board overtemperature logic fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the air fryer and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before inspection.
- Check ventilation: Ensure the Lakeland air fryer has at least 10 cm clearance on all sides and is not placed under cabinets or against walls. Clear any obstructions from rear and side vents.
- Clean air paths: Remove the basket and drawer. Inspect the interior for heavy grease buildup on the heater guard and fan cover. Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then dry thoroughly.
- Inspect thermal cut-out: Access the top or rear panel to locate the thermal fuse or resettable thermostat mounted near the heating element. Check for a manual reset button (some models have a small red button). If present, press gently to reset.
- Check continuity: With power disconnected, test the thermal fuse/thermostat with a multimeter. An open reading on a non-resettable fuse means it has blown and must be replaced with the same rating.
- Verify sensor placement: Ensure the NTC sensor is properly clipped in place and not touching the heating element directly, which can cause false high readings.
- Reassemble and test: After cleaning and replacing any failed safety device, reassemble the unit and run a short preheat. If E3 persists, the control board temperature circuit may be faulty and require replacement.
Warning: Never bypass a thermal fuse or thermostat. Doing so removes critical safety protection and can lead to fire.
