Possible Causes
Grease buildup on heating element, Using too much oil or fatty foods, Food particles stuck near heater, Temperature set too high for food type
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If smoke is heavy or smells like burning plastic, unplug immediately. For light food smoke, proceed with caution.
- Step 1 – Stop and cool: Pause cooking and allow the unit to cool. Remove the basket and pan.
- Step 2 – Clean thoroughly: Wipe grease from the heating element area, chamber walls, and basket. Use a degreaser safe for appliances.
- Step 3 – Reduce oil: Avoid adding extra oil directly into the basket. Toss food lightly in oil before placing it in.
- Step 4 – Lower temperature: For fatty foods like bacon or sausages, use a lower temperature and shorter intervals, emptying grease from the pan between cycles.
- Step 5 – Check for plastic smell: If smoke smells like melting plastic, inspect the housing and wiring for heat damage and discontinue use until repaired.
