Possible Causes

Heavy grease buildup on heater, Food debris contacting heating element, Faulty thermostat allowing excessive temperature, Oil residue on internal surfaces

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off and unplug immediately. If flames are present, do not open the drawer fully; disconnect power and smother with a damp cloth if safe, or use a suitable fire extinguisher. Never use water on an oil fire.

  • Allow to cool: Wait until the unit is completely cool before cleaning.
  • Deep clean: Remove basket and pan. Clean them thoroughly to remove old oil and burnt food. Wipe the interior cavity, heater guard, and fan shroud with a degreaser suitable for kitchen appliances.
  • Inspect heater: Check the heating element for heavy carbon deposits. Gently brush off loose debris; do not bend the element.
  • Check temperature control: If burning occurs even with clean components and normal recipes, test the thermostat/NTC sensor and replace if it is allowing excessive temperatures.
  • Test carefully: Run the unit empty for a few minutes in a well‑ventilated area to burn off any remaining residue, monitoring for smoke.
