Possible Causes

Protective coatings not fully burned off, Plastic components too close to heater, Grease trapped behind heater guard, Non-food-safe accessories used inside fryer

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure good kitchen ventilation when running burn-in cycles.

  • Step 1 – Deep clean: Thoroughly clean basket, drawer, and interior surfaces with mild detergent. Rinse and dry completely.
  • Step 2 – Burn-in cycle: Run the empty fryer (no food) at 180–200°C for 10–15 minutes, then cool. Repeat 2–3 times to burn off residual manufacturing oils, following Moulinex instructions.
  • Step 3 – Inspect for melting: After cooling, inspect interior plastic parts near the heater for discoloration or deformation. Replace any parts that show signs of overheating.
  • Step 4 – Check accessories: Only use Moulinex-approved or high-temperature-safe accessories. Remove any non-approved silicone mats or plastics that may be off-gassing.
