Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the air fryer and let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Do not attempt to reset while the unit is hot.
Step-by-step checks:
- Allow full cool-down: Remove the basket and pan. Let the unit sit in a cool, well-ventilated area until all internal parts are at room temperature. Then plug it back in and test.
- Check for blocked airflow: Inspect the rear and bottom vents of the Nuwave air fryer. Remove any dust, grease buildup, or obstructions. Ensure there is at least several inches of clearance around the unit when in use.
- Clean interior: Excess grease on the heating element and fan shroud can cause hot spots. Once cool, wipe the interior metal surfaces and around the heating element with a damp cloth. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the element or fan.
- Inspect high-limit thermostat: With the unit unplugged and top cover removed, locate the small round or rectangular thermal cutoff / high-limit thermostat mounted near the heating element. Check for signs of overheating or discoloration. Some are manual-reset (small button); if present, press gently to reset.
- Test continuity (advanced): Use a multimeter to check continuity across the high-limit thermostat. If it is open (no continuity) at room temperature and not resettable, it must be replaced.
- Replace components: Replace a failed high-limit thermostat / thermal cutoff. If the thermostat is good and airflow is clear but E2 persists, the main control board may be misreading temperature and require replacement.
Note: Persistent E2 after cleaning and cooling usually indicates a failing thermostat or control board. Do not bypass safety thermostats.
