Possible Causes

Stalled convection fan motor, seized fan bearings, blocked fan blades, failed fan driver circuit on main board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the air fryer before touching the fan or opening the housing. The fan can start unexpectedly if power is applied.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Listen for fan operation: When you previously started a cook cycle, did you hear the fan spinning? E5 often appears when the control detects no airflow.
  • Inspect fan through grill: Remove the basket and look up at the fan behind the heating element. Check for food debris, foil, or grease buildup on the blades.
  • Clean fan area: Once cool, use a soft brush or cloth to gently remove loose debris from the fan blades and surrounding shroud. Do not bend the blades.
  • Manual spin test (advanced): With the unit unplugged and top cover removed, gently spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding or sticking. If it is stiff or seized, the motor is failing.
  • Check wiring: Inspect the two or three-wire harness from the fan motor to the main board. Ensure connectors are fully seated and wires are not pinched or burnt.
  • Replace components: If the fan is seized or noisy, replace the Nuwave air fryer convection fan motor assembly. If the fan spins freely and wiring is intact but E5 persists, the main control board fan driver may be defective and require replacement.

Warning: Do not operate the air fryer with a non-functioning fan. Lack of airflow can overheat the unit and create a fire risk.
