Possible Causes
Misaligned basket, failed basket-in-place microswitch, broken switch actuator tab on chassis, damaged switch wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the air fryer before attempting to adjust or access the basket switch mechanism.
Step-by-step checks:
- Reseat the basket: Remove the cooking basket and pan completely, then slide them back in firmly until you hear or feel a click. Many Nuwave models require the basket to be fully seated to close the safety switch.
- Check for obstructions: Inspect the sides and bottom of the basket rails for crumbs or warped plastic that might prevent full insertion.
- Inspect switch actuator: Look for a small plastic tab or lever on the basket or housing that presses the internal microswitch when the basket is inserted. If this tab is broken or worn, the switch will not engage.
- Access the switch (advanced): With the unit unplugged and outer shell removed, locate the basket safety microswitch near the front of the unit. Check that its lever is intact and that the switch clicks when pressed manually.
- Test continuity: Using a multimeter, test the switch for continuity when pressed and released. If it does not change state, the switch is defective.
- Repair or replace: Replace a faulty basket/door safety microswitch. If the switch is good but the actuator tab is broken, you may need to replace the basket assembly or the front chassis frame depending on where the tab is molded.
Note: Never bypass the safety switch by shorting wires; this defeats a critical safety feature.
