Possible Causes
Failed ambient temperature sensor on control board, damaged secondary NTC sensor near air inlet, broken sensor wiring, control board analog-to-digital converter fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool before opening any covers.
Step-by-step checks:
- Reset and test: Unplug for 10 minutes, then plug back in and attempt a short cook cycle. Note if E8 appears immediately or only after heating begins.
- Locate secondary sensor (advanced): Some Nuwave models use a second NTC sensor near the air inlet or on the control board to monitor ambient temperature. With the housing removed, look for a small bead-type sensor or thermistor on a two-wire harness separate from the main cavity sensor.
- Inspect wiring: Check for pinched, cut, or burnt wires leading to this sensor. Ensure connectors are firmly seated on the control board.
- Test sensor resistance: Using a multimeter, measure resistance across the sensor leads at room temperature. Compare to the main cavity sensor; they should be in a similar range. An open or shorted reading indicates failure.
- Replace components: Replace a defective ambient/secondary NTC temperature sensor. If the sensor tests good but E8 persists, the main control board may have a failed sensor input circuit.
Note: Because this sensor helps prevent overheating, do not operate the unit with it disconnected or bypassed.
