Possible Causes

Unresponsive touchpad, failed Start button switch, loose ribbon cable between UI and main board, defective display/control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the unit before removing the control panel or touching internal wiring.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Confirm settings: Ensure a temperature and time are selected. Some Nuwave models require both to be set before Start will respond.
  • Basket position: Verify the basket is fully inserted and the safety switch is engaged; otherwise the Start command may be ignored.
  • Clean control panel: Wipe the touch surface with a slightly damp, non-abrasive cloth to remove grease or residue that may interfere with capacitive touch sensors. Dry thoroughly.
  • Check for partial response: See if other buttons respond (change temp, time, presets). If only Start is unresponsive, the Start key circuit may be faulty.
  • Inspect ribbon cable (advanced): Remove the control panel and check the flat ribbon cable or harness between the UI board and main board. Reseat connectors firmly.
  • Replace UI board: If the Start button remains non-functional while other functions work, replace the display/touch control board. If no buttons respond, the main control board may also be suspect.

Note: Do not spray cleaners directly onto the control panel; liquid intrusion can permanently damage the touch electronics.
