Possible Causes
Open or shorted fan motor winding, Obstructed fan blades, Loose fan motor connector, Failed fan driver circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the fryer and let it cool. Do not attempt to spin the fan with power applied.
E8 typically indicates the control board cannot drive or sense the fan motor correctly.
- Check for obstruction: Remove the basket and look up at the fan through the heater guard. Use a flashlight to check for food debris, warped plastic, or wiring contacting the blades.
- Spin test: With the unit unplugged, gently spin the fan blades with a non-metal tool. They should rotate freely without grinding or binding.
- Access fan motor: Remove the rear/bottom cover to expose the fan motor assembly. Inspect the motor connector and wiring harness for looseness or damage.
- Electrical test (advanced): Disconnect the fan motor and measure resistance across its terminals. An open circuit or very low resistance may indicate a failed motor. Compare to specifications if available.
- Replace fan motor: If the motor is seized or electrically faulty, remove its mounting screws, transfer the fan blade if separate, and install an Oster-compatible fan motor assembly.
- Control board driver: If the motor tests good but does not receive voltage during operation, the fan driver on the main control board may be defective. Replace the board if necessary.
