Possible Causes
Blocked ventilation openings, Failed or weak thermal cutoff, Fan motor slowing or stopping under heat, Excessive grease buildup restricting airflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Allow the fryer to cool completely before further use. Do not cover vents during operation.
- Improve ventilation: Move the fryer to an open area with at least 5 inches (12 cm) clearance on all sides and above. Do not operate under low cabinets.
- Clean thoroughly: Remove the basket and tray. Clean grease from the interior walls, heater guard, and especially around the fan intake and exhaust vents.
- Check fan performance: During operation, ensure the fan runs at a consistent speed. If it slows or stops intermittently, the motor may be overheating and should be replaced.
- Inspect thermal cutoff (advanced): Access the heater assembly and locate the thermal fuse. If it is partially failing, it may open at lower-than-designed temperatures. Test and replace with an Oster-specified part if necessary.
