Possible Causes
Manufacturing oils burning off heater, Grease buildup on heater and interior surfaces, Food debris stuck near heating element, Melted plastic from accessory or liner contacting heater
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you see smoke or flames, unplug immediately and do not open the drawer until flames are out. For persistent burning smell, discontinue use until inspected.
User actions:
- Initial burn-in: For new units, run an empty cycle at 400°F (or highest setting) for 10–15 minutes with good ventilation to burn off manufacturing residues.
- Deep clean: Remove basket and drawer. Clean all removable parts with warm soapy water. Wipe interior surfaces and heater guard with a damp cloth (unit unplugged and cool).
- Inspect for plastic: Check that no plastic liners, packaging, or utensils are near the heater.
Advanced:
- Access heater area: If smell persists, remove covers to inspect for melted plastic or heavy grease deposits on the heater and fan. Carefully scrape off deposits and clean with a degreaser safe for appliances.
