Possible Causes
Shorted or out-of-calibration NTC temperature sensor, Stuck-closed heater relay on control board, High-limit thermostat with incorrect rating, Sensor dislodged from proper mounting location
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool. Overheating can be hazardous.
User checks:
- Verify settings: Confirm the displayed temperature matches your intended setting and that you are not using a high-heat preset unintentionally.
- Load size: Avoid very small loads at high temperature, which can cook faster than expected.
Internal checks (advanced):
- Inspect sensor placement: Access the heater area and verify the NTC sensor is clipped in its designated location, not hanging loose or touching the heater coil.
- Test sensor: Measure resistance at room temperature and compare to expected values (consult PowerXL service data if available). A sensor reading far off spec should be replaced.
- Check relay: On the control board, inspect the heater relay/triac for signs of welding or burning. If the heater remains on continuously during operation (no cycling), the relay may be stuck closed and the board should be replaced.
Do not use: Discontinue use until the overheating issue is resolved to avoid fire risk.
