Possible Causes

Shorted heating element, Damaged triac or relay on control board, Shorted wiring between board and heater, Incorrect mains voltage or loose power cord connection

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the air fryer. Do not attempt to bypass fuses or operate with exposed wiring.

Basic checks:

  • Outlet and cord: Plug another appliance into the same outlet to confirm proper voltage. Inspect the PowerXL power cord for cuts, burns, or kinks. Replace the cord if damaged.
  • Reset: After confirming the outlet is good, plug the unit back in and try a short cycle. If E5 appears again, proceed to internal checks.

Internal checks (advanced):

  • Access heater wiring: Remove bottom/rear covers to expose the heating element terminals and wiring.
  • Inspect for shorts: Look for wires touching the metal chassis, melted insulation, or burnt connectors at the heater terminals.
  • Test heater resistance: Disconnect at least one heater lead. Measure resistance across the heating element. A typical value is between 10–40Ω depending on wattage. A reading near 0Ω indicates a shorted element; OL indicates an open element.
  • Check board components: Visually inspect the control board for burnt spots near the heater relay or triac. Any visible damage usually means the board must be replaced.
  • Reassemble: After replacing a shorted heater or damaged wiring, reassemble and test. If E5 persists with a good heater and wiring, replace the control board.

Warning: Do not attempt to repair or re-solder high-current components on the control board unless you are trained and equipped; replace the board as a unit.
