Possible Causes
Blocked air vents, Failed or loose NTC sensor causing incorrect reading, Faulty thermal fuse or thermostat, Control PCB overheat detection fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the air fryer and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before inspection.
- Check ventilation: Ensure the air fryer is used on a hard, flat surface with at least 10 cm clearance around all sides and above. Clear any obstructions from rear and side vents.
- Clean air paths: Remove the basket and drawer. Inspect the interior for heavy grease buildup on the heater guard and fan intake. Clean with a soft brush and a damp cloth (no abrasive pads). Let dry completely.
- Inspect thermal safety devices: Open the housing to access the heater assembly. Locate the thermal fuse and/or bimetal thermostat mounted on or near the heater shroud.
- Check for loose mounting: A thermostat that has come loose from the metal surface can misread temperature. Re-secure it firmly with its original screws or clips.
- Test thermal fuse (advanced): With the unit unplugged, disconnect one lead of the thermal fuse and check continuity. If open, the fuse has blown and must be replaced with an identical temperature and current rating Russell Hobbs thermal fuse.
- Sensor check: Verify the NTC sensor is firmly attached and wiring is intact. A loose sensor can cause false overheat readings.
- Reassemble and test: After cleaning and any part replacement, reassemble and run at a lower temperature first to confirm stable operation.
If E3 recurs immediately after power-on with clear vents and good components, the control PCB may be defective and professional service is recommended.
