Possible Causes

Faulty basket-in microswitch, Misaligned basket latch, Broken actuator tab on drawer, Loose wiring to door switch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the air fryer before inspecting the switch.

  • Check basket insertion: Ensure the cooking drawer is fully inserted and clicks into place. Try removing and reinserting firmly.
  • Inspect latch and rails: Look for bent rails, deformed plastic, or food debris preventing full closure. Clean the drawer rails and latch area thoroughly.
  • Locate the basket switch: On many Russell Hobbs models, a small microswitch is mounted near the front, actuated by a plastic tab on the drawer.
  • Test switch operation: With the unit unplugged, press the switch lever by hand. You should hear a distinct click. If it feels mushy or sticks, the switch may be faulty.
  • Electrical test (advanced): Disconnect the switch and test continuity while pressing and releasing the lever. Replace the switch if it does not change state reliably.
  • Check actuator tab: Inspect the plastic tab on the drawer that presses the switch. If broken or worn, the drawer assembly may need replacement.
  • Replace parts as needed: Fit a new basket detection microswitch or drawer/basket assembly compatible with your Russell Hobbs model.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit covers, plug in, and verify that E7 clears when the basket is fully inserted.
