Possible Causes
Seized convection fan motor, Obstructed fan blades, Failed fan motor tach sensor, Faulty fan driver circuit on control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and allow the unit to cool. Do not insert fingers or tools into the fan area while connected to power.
- Listen for fan operation: When you start a cycle, you should normally hear the fan. If E5 appears and the fan never spins, suspect a motor or control issue.
- Check for obstructions: Remove the basket and look up at the fan behind the heater. Use a flashlight to check for food debris, warped foil, or loose screws blocking the blades. Carefully remove any obstruction.
- Spin test: With the unit unplugged and rear/top cover removed, gently spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. Stiff or rough movement indicates a failing motor bearing.
- Inspect motor wiring: Confirm the fan motor connector is fully seated on the control board and that the wires are not pinched or burnt.
- Motor replacement: If the fan is free but does not run when powered, or if it is noisy and stiff, replace the convection fan motor assembly. This typically involves removing the fan blade, motor bracket, and transferring the new motor.
- Control board: If a known‑good motor still does not run and E5 persists, the fan driver circuit on the main PCB may be defective and require board replacement.
