Safety first: Disconnect from mains before removing the control panel or accessing internal switches.

• Confirm correct operation: Ensure the basket is fully inserted and the door is closed. Some Salter models require a specific sequence (time, temperature, then start).
• Check child lock: Refer to the user manual for any child lock feature. Disable it by holding the specified button combination.
• Test other buttons: If other buttons respond but start does not, the start key area on the touch panel may be faulty. Clean the panel surface and try again.
• Inspect basket switch: Access the basket detection switch and test continuity when the basket is inserted. Replace the switch if it does not close properly.
• Panel/PCB replacement: If the switch is good and the panel still does not register the start command, replace the touch control panel assembly. If that fails, replace the main control PCB.
