Possible Causes
Failed ambient NTC sensor on control board, Sensor dislodged from its mounting, Broken sensor wiring, Faulty ADC (analog‑to‑digital converter) on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect from mains before opening the control panel or housing.
- Identify ambient sensor: On some Salter models, a small NTC sensor is mounted near the control PCB to monitor ambient temperature. Locate this sensor (often a small bead or epoxy‑coated component on two thin wires).
- Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is not dangling loose or touching hot metal parts. Reposition it in its original clip or bracket if necessary.
- Test sensor: Measure resistance at room temperature; compare with expected values from the service data (often similar to the cabinet NTC). Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Ensure the sensor leads are intact and the connector is firmly seated on the PCB.
- PCB fault: If a known‑good sensor still results in E12, the ADC or related circuitry on the main PCB is likely defective, requiring PCB replacement.
