E5 appears on the display and the unit will not start a cooking cycle.

Safety first: Disconnect from mains before any disassembly. Do not work on live circuits.

• Check outlet and extension leads: Plug the air fryer directly into a known‑good wall socket, avoiding extension leads or multi‑way adapters. Verify the socket with another high‑load appliance.
• Inspect power cord: Examine the Salter power cord for cuts, kinks, or burn marks. Gently flex near the plug and unit entry; if the display flickers, the cord may be internally damaged and should be replaced.
• Access power input board: Remove the base cover to access the power entry and main PCB. Check that the live, neutral, and earth connections are tight and that there are no signs of scorching.
• Check fuse (if fitted): Some Salter models include an internal fuse on the power board. Test and replace with the same rating if blown. Also check the plug fuse (UK models) and replace with the correct rating (typically 13A) if blown.
• Inspect SMPS components: Look for bulging capacitors, cracked solder joints, or burnt components on the main PCB. If any are present, the main control PCB should be replaced rather than repaired at home.
• If E5 persists: Persistent E5 after cord and fuse checks indicates a defective main PCB or voltage sensing circuit; replacement of the main control board or professional service is recommended.
