Possible Causes
Internal wiring short near heater, Failed insulation on heater terminals, Damaged thermal cut‑out circuit on PCB, Excessive grease buildup causing localized overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug immediately. If you smelled burning or saw smoke, do not attempt to power the unit again until it has been fully inspected.
- External inspection: Check the casing for heat discoloration or warping, especially near the top and rear vents. If the plastic is melted, the unit may be unsafe to repair.
- Open the housing: Remove the outer shell to inspect the heater, wiring, and PCB. Look for charred insulation, melted connectors, or burnt PCB tracks.
- Repair or replace wiring: Any burnt or brittle high‑temperature wire must be replaced with equivalent high‑temp cable and new crimp terminals. Ensure proper routing away from sharp edges and hot surfaces.
- Inspect heater terminals: Check that the ceramic or mica insulators around the heater terminals are intact. If cracked or carbonized, replace the heating element assembly.
- Check PCB damage: If the main PCB shows burn marks or damaged components in the overheat protection area, replace the entire PCB.
- Deep clean: Remove heavy grease deposits from the heater shroud and internal surfaces to reduce future hot spots.
- Safety test: After repairs, reassemble and run the unit under supervision for 10–15 minutes at a moderate temperature, watching for any abnormal smells or behavior. If E9 reappears, discontinue use and seek professional service.
