Possible Causes
Vibrating transformer or inductor on PCB, Loose fan motor windings, PWM drive noise at certain fan speeds, Resonance in plastic housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug before opening the housing.
- Identify source: Run the unit briefly and listen carefully to locate the noise (fan area vs. base/control area). Then unplug and open that section.
- Secure components: On the PCB, gently press on transformers or inductors (with power off) and add a small amount of high‑temperature silicone around their base to damp vibration (advanced users).
- Check fan motor: Ensure the fan motor is firmly mounted and that its screws are tight.
- Reassemble tightly: Make sure all housing screws are tight to reduce resonance.
- Acceptable noise: Mild coil whine can be normal; if the noise is very loud or accompanied by burning smell, replace the main PCB or fan motor as appropriate.
