Possible Causes
Shorted or inaccurate temperature sensor, Stuck heater relay on main PCB, Failed high-limit thermostat, Blocked airflow around sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug immediately if you see smoke or flames. Allow to cool and clean out any burnt residue before reuse.
Cleaning and airflow:
- Thoroughly clean the basket, tray, and interior surfaces to remove grease that can smoke at high temperatures.
- Ensure vents are not blocked and the unit has adequate clearance.
Internal checks:
- Test the cavity temperature sensor for correct resistance; replace if shorted or out of spec.
- Inspect the main control PCB heater relay. If contacts are welded closed, the heater may stay on continuously.
- Verify the high-limit thermostat is functional and not bypassed.
Corrective action:
- Replace a defective temperature sensor or high-limit thermostat.
- Replace the main control PCB if the heater relay is stuck or the board is miscontrolling temperature.
