Possible Causes
Misaligned basket rails, Broken plastic actuator tab on drawer, Faulty microswitch for basket detection, Debris obstructing latch mechanism
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the air fryer before inspecting the latch mechanism.
- Check for obstructions: Remove the basket and drawer. Inspect the rails and cavity for food debris or warped plastic that prevents full insertion. Clean and trim minor burrs if necessary.
- Inspect actuator tab: On many Severin models, a small plastic tab on the drawer engages a microswitch inside the housing. Verify that this tab is not broken or worn. If broken, replace the drawer/basket assembly.
- Test microswitch: With the housing open, locate the basket detection microswitch. Press it manually and listen for a click. Test continuity with a multimeter; replace if it does not change state when pressed.
- Adjust alignment: Ensure the switch lever is correctly positioned to be actuated by the drawer tab. Slight bending or repositioning may restore reliable contact.
Warning: Never bypass the basket safety switch permanently; it prevents operation with an open drawer.
