Possible Causes
Blocked air intake or exhaust vents, Failed or stuck thermal cutoff near heating element, Faulty NTC sensor reading too high, Grease buildup around heater causing localized overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes. Surfaces near the heater can remain hot.
- Check ventilation: Ensure the air fryer is placed on a hard, flat surface with at least 10 cm clearance around all sides and above. Clear any obstructions from the rear and bottom vents.
- Clean grease and crumbs: Remove the basket and drawer. Clean the interior, especially around the heating element and fan guard, using a soft brush and a slightly damp cloth. Excess grease can cause hot spots and trigger overheat protection.
- Inspect thermal cutoff: Access the heater assembly and locate the thermal cutoff/thermal fuse mounted near the heating element. Check for signs of discoloration or deformation. A blown thermal cutoff will usually read open circuit with a multimeter and must be replaced with the same temperature rating.
- Verify sensor placement: Confirm the NTC sensor is properly fixed in its bracket and not touching the heating element directly. Misplacement can cause false high readings.
- Test run: After cleaning and inspection, reassemble and run the unit empty on a low temperature setting while monitoring. If E3 reappears quickly, suspect a faulty NTC sensor or control PCB calibration and consider replacement.
Warning: Never cover vents or operate the air fryer inside cabinets. Overheating can lead to fire.
