Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect from mains and allow the unit to cool. Moving parts and sharp metal edges can cause injury.
- Check for obstructions: Remove the basket and drawer. Look up toward the fan guard. Ensure no food debris, parchment paper, or foreign objects are jammed in the fan blades.
- Spin test: With the unit unplugged, gently rotate the fan blades through the guard using a non‑metal tool. The fan should spin freely without grinding. If it is stiff or stuck, the motor bearings may be seized.
- Access fan motor: Remove the top or rear cover to expose the fan motor assembly. Inspect the mounting screws and rubber grommets; a misaligned motor can bind the fan.
- Electrical test: Disconnect the fan motor connector from the PCB. Measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit or very high resistance indicates a failed motor. Replace the fan motor assembly.
- Check tachometer wiring (if equipped): Some Severin models use a tach wire from the motor to the PCB. Ensure this thin wire and its connector are intact and firmly seated.
Warning: Do not operate the air fryer with a non‑functional fan; this can cause overheating and damage to the heater and plastic components.
