Possible Causes
Broken drawer latch tab, Misaligned chassis latch, Worn basket detection microswitch actuator, Debris blocking latch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before inspecting the latch mechanism.
Steps to restore proper latching:
- Clean latch area: Remove crumbs and grease from the front opening and latch surfaces.
- Inspect drawer tab: Check the plastic tab on the drawer that engages the internal latch and microswitch. If cracked or shortened, replace the drawer assembly.
- Check chassis latch: Look inside the unit at the mating latch piece. Ensure it is not bent or loose.
- Test microswitch: With the drawer removed, manually press the basket detection microswitch and listen for a click. Replace if it does not operate smoothly.
- Adjust alignment: Slightly loosen mounting screws of the latch bracket and adjust position so the drawer engages smoothly, then retighten.
Note: Do not slam the drawer closed; this accelerates wear on the latch and switch.
