Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and wait until all internal parts are cool before opening the housing.
Steps to resolve E6:
- Check for obstructions: Remove the basket and drawer. Look up toward the fan behind the heating element. Ensure no food pieces, parchment paper, or foil are stuck in the fan blades.
- Spin test: With the unit unplugged, gently spin the fan blades with your finger or a non-metal tool. They should rotate freely without scraping. If stiff or jammed, the convection fan motor may be failing or obstructed.
- Access the fan motor: Remove the top or rear cover to reach the fan motor assembly. Inspect the blades for grease buildup and clean carefully.
- Check wiring: Verify that the fan motor connector is fully seated on the main control PCB and that wires are not pinched or heat-damaged.
- Motor test: For experienced DIYers, measure resistance across the fan motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. Some SilverCrest models use a motor with built-in tachometer feedback; if the motor runs but E6 persists, the feedback circuit may be faulty.
- Replace the motor: If the motor is noisy, seized, or electrically open, replace the complete convection fan motor assembly.
Warning: Do not run the air fryer with the fan removed or disabled; this will cause rapid overheating and potential fire.
