Possible Causes
Protective oils on heating element, Residual manufacturing coatings, New plastic components heating for first time
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure good ventilation during initial use. If smoke is heavy or smell is acrid, stop and inspect.
Steps to minimize new-appliance odor:
- Pre-clean: Wash the frying basket and drawer with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly.
- Burn-in cycle: Run the air fryer empty at 180–200°C for 10–20 minutes, then allow to cool. Repeat once if necessary.
- Ventilate: Operate near an open window or under an extractor hood during burn-in.
- Inspect if persistent: If strong smell persists after several cycles, inspect for any plastic parts touching the heating element and correct or replace as needed.
Note: A mild odor during the first few uses is normal and should diminish quickly.
