Possible Causes
NTC temperature sensor out of calibration, Stuck heater relay on control PCB, Shorted triac driving heater, Failed thermostat/thermal sensor feedback
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool. Overheating can damage internal components and pose a fire risk.
Steps:
- 1. Verify operation: Run a short test at the lowest temperature setting with an oven thermometer inside the basket. If the temperature climbs far above the set point, regulation is faulty.
- 2. Inspect sensor: Access the NTC temperature sensor near the heater. Ensure it is firmly attached to its mounting point and not hanging loose away from the hot air stream.
- 3. Check wiring: Look for damaged or shorted sensor wires that could cause incorrect readings.
- 4. Control board inspection: Examine the heater relay or triac on the main control PCB. If the relay contacts are welded closed or the triac is shorted, the heater may stay on continuously. In this case, replace the control PCB.
- 5. Replace sensor if needed: If the sensor is physically damaged or tests out of specification, replace it with the correct Sunbeam NTC sensor.
Warning: Do not continue using an air fryer that overheats; it should be repaired or replaced before further use.
