Display shows E3 and the air fryer stops heating during a cycle.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the air fryer and allow it to cool completely. Overheating faults can indicate a fire risk; do not continue using the unit until the cause is identified.
- Check ventilation: Ensure the air fryer is placed on a hard, heat‑resistant surface with at least 10 cm clearance on all sides and above. Clear any obstructions from rear and side vents.
- Clean air paths: Remove the basket and drawer. Inspect the air outlet and intake grills for built‑up grease or food debris. Clean with a soft brush and mild detergent solution; ensure everything is fully dry before reassembly.
- Inspect the thermal fuse and thermostat: Remove the top or rear cover to access the heating assembly. Swan air fryers typically use a thermal fuse and/or a bimetal thermostat clipped to the heater bracket or cavity wall. Check for signs of overheating (discoloration, melted insulation).
- Continuity test (for experienced users): With the unit unplugged, disconnect one lead of the thermal fuse and test for continuity. An open fuse indicates it has blown and must be replaced with the same temperature and current rating. Do not bypass the fuse.
- Check fan operation: A non‑running fan can cause localized overheating. Spin the fan by hand to ensure it moves freely; see fan‑related entries if it is stiff or seized.
- Reassemble fully: Ensure all covers and screws are refitted before testing. Never operate the unit with safety devices removed or bypassed.
If E3 recurs after cleaning and confirming proper airflow, have a technician test the high‑limit thermostat and main PCB relay for sticking or mis‑calibration.
