Possible Causes

Open heating element, Burnt heater wiring or spade terminals, Blown thermal fuse in heater circuit, Failed heater relay on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the air fryer and let it cool. Internal components can remain live even when the unit is off; never work on it while plugged in.

  • Confirm symptom: Start a cooking program and feel (carefully) near the exhaust after 3–4 minutes. If there is no warmth and E5 appears, the heater circuit is likely open.
  • Access the heater: Remove the basket and drawer. Undo the screws securing the top or rear cover to expose the heating element assembly.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the high‑temperature wires from the main PCB to the heating element. Look for burnt connectors, loose spade terminals, or melted insulation. Tighten or replace damaged terminals using high‑temperature rated connectors.
  • Test the heating element: Disconnect at least one lead from the element and measure resistance with a multimeter. A typical element will read between 10–40 Ω. An open circuit (OL) indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
  • Check the thermal fuse: Many Swan models include a thermal fuse in series with the heater. Locate the small cylindrical component wrapped in heat‑shrink near the heater leads. Test for continuity; if open, replace with an identical temperature and current rating.
  • PCB relay check: If the element and fuse test good, the heater relay on the main PCB may not be switching. Listen for a click when starting a program. Lack of a click or visible burn marks on the PCB around the relay indicate the board likely needs replacement.

Do not bypass the thermal fuse or thermostat; doing so creates a serious fire hazard.
