Possible Causes
Protective oils or coatings not burned off properly, Non‑stick basket coating overheating due to empty preheating, Internal plastic parts too close to heater
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure good ventilation when performing burn‑in cycles.
- Initial cleaning: Wash the basket and drawer thoroughly with warm soapy water and dry completely.
- Burn‑in cycles: Run the air fryer empty (basket inserted) at 180–200°C for 10–15 minutes, 2–3 times, allowing it to cool between cycles. Expect some odor initially.
- Avoid overheating empty: Do not run at maximum temperature for extended periods with an empty basket; this can overheat coatings.
- Inspect for damage: If the smell is acrid and persistent, inspect the basket coating and internal plastics for discoloration or blistering. Replace any damaged parts.
If the odor remains strong after several burn‑in cycles and no visible damage is found, contact Swan support as the materials may be defective.
