Possible Causes
Shorted NTC temperature sensor, Melted sensor insulation contacting chassis, Moisture or oil contamination on sensor connector, Failed control board interpreting sensor as shorted
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the air fryer and allow it to cool fully. Do not attempt to run the unit while disassembled.
Steps to troubleshoot:
- Let the unit cool: If E2 appears after long high-heat use, allow at least 30 minutes of cooling, then retry. Some T-fal models trigger E2 when the sensor detects extreme temperature.
- Inspect for oil or moisture: Remove the basket and look up toward the heating assembly. Excess oil splatter or steam can contaminate the sensor area. Gently clean around the sensor with a dry cloth; do not soak or spray liquids inside.
- Access the sensor wiring: Remove the top or rear cover to expose the heater plate and sensor wiring. Look for melted insulation, bare wires touching metal, or wires fused together.
- Check resistance: With a multimeter, measure the NTC sensor resistance at room temperature. A near-zero reading (short) indicates a failed sensor.
- Replace the sensor if shorted: Install a new T-fal NTC temperature sensor assembly, routing wires away from the heating element and securing them with high-temperature clips or ties.
- Inspect the control board: If the sensor tests normal but E2 persists, the main PCB may be misreading the sensor. Look for burn marks or damaged components near the sensor input. Replacement of the main control PCB may be required.
Never bypass the sensor to force the unit to heat; this disables critical safety protection.
